Diabetes and Woman

Do you know what diabetes is? Many people know it has something to do with the sugar levels in the blood, but other than that they have no idea. Well, it is when the body is unable to produce or will not respond to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that allows blood sugar to enter the blood cells for energy.

There are some people who are type 1, and then there are some who are type 2. Type 2 is the most common form of the disorder and it tends to occur when a person is well in their adulthood. Type 1 usually occurs in those who are children or in their adolescent period. Type 1 means you have to inject yourself with insulin; however, type 2 can usually be cured with a capsule of some sort.

When it comes to being a woman, you should know that 9.1 million women in America are dealing with one of the types of diabetes. You will also find that about third of those women have no clue that they have it. It roughly comes to about 9% of all women in America have the disorder.

When it comes to the minorities, they are at the risk the most. Those who are African American, Latino, American Indian, or Asian are more likely to get diabetes than a white woman. It is because of the increase in lifespan that woman are being effected the most. In fact, most people develop sugar issues as they proceed to age. Not only are there more women developing the disorder, but there are a lot of complications that are arising.

For those who had no idea, diabetes is one of the worst diseases to have, and it is number five on the deadly disease list in the US. There is no cure for the disease and it has become a real struggle for women to get control over. You will find that what puts women at risk for such serious side effects is the fact that it will increase yeast infections, and will cause complications when pregnancy occurs. For those women who do not currently have diabetes, the pregnancy may make you develop such disorders. Those who has gestational diabetes will eventually (most likely) develop the disorder later in life.

For women, the disorder is very serious. It can also cause women to not be able to have a pregnancy because it could result in stillborns or even labor death. There are a lot of diabetic women who are unable to have children because it could mean to put their own life on the line. There are a lot of women who do choose to have the baby against the will of their doctor and they make it through the birth, but then their body becomes so hurt from the process that they have to go on dialysis and eventually get a kidney transplant.
