Fibromyalgia research and clinical trials
The Fibromyalgia or the FMS disorder is characterized by mystery and it is a medical mystery that has not been solved yet and researchers and investigators are trying hard to know the cause of the disease so that the treatment can be devised effectively. The disease is such a mystery that it shows many symptoms of different diseases in one single patient which makes the right diagnosis difficult and the condition is more prone to misdiagnosis. The disease is also being researched for its genetic predisposition because there are patient who seems to have the disease by their genes through their parents. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), this organization supports the research in the FMS disease by which the scientists and investigators can find out the real cause behind the disease for the effective treatment of the disease. Currently the research focuses on the causes of the FMS disease.
The Research:
The research in the FMS disorder also concentrates on the pain in the disease and hope for a better understanding of the nature of the pain in the disease. The patient's hypersensitivity to the stimuli that is not very painful is the main object of research in the FMS disorder. Scientists are trying to know the exact nature of pain in the FMS disorder. The scientists are of the opinion that the female reproductive hormones may be playing a role in the increased sensitivity of pain in the disorder. The research is also focusing on the role of the sex hormones in females that affects the heightened sensitivity to pain. The stress factor in the evolution of the FMS disorder is also being examined by the scientists because the way the patient's body responds to the different kinds of stress also has a very significant bearing on the progress of the disease.
The research in FMS is also looking into the problem of sleep disorders that are also related to the FMS condition. It has been seen that even the medications for improving the sleep of the patient have not proven helpful, and scientist have found similar conditions or symptoms with insomnia patients. The role of genes in the FMS disease has been again and again discussed by scientists and the disease seems to run in the family so scientist are also doing research in this direction so that a conclusion may be drawn and the relation may be established.
