Basics About Food
In this fast paced world people are forgetting that nutrition is all about taking proper food in a proper way. If you eat healthy you live healthy. So let us start with the basic- nutrition. The three main nutrients that our body cannot do without include protein, carbohydrates, and fats. A healthy diet will consist of right portions of low-fat proteins, unsaturated fats, and whole-grain carbohydrates.

Proteins
To begin with one should include plenty of low-fat protein in meal everyday. Go for chicken and fish rather than red meat. Meat from organic farms is better as there are no hormones injected growths and the meat is rich in nutrients. When you have enough protein in your diet you will not feel the need for snacks in between your meals.

Your diet should include five servings of fruits and vegetables everyday. Eat lot of fruits and drink lot of natural juices. Health experts are now urging people to eat organic vegetables and fruits as they do not contain pesticides and are rich in nutrients. Fruits provide natural sugar and will reduce your sugar cravings.

Carbohydrates
Whole grain carbohydrates complete a healthy diet. Carbohydrates are converted into glucose, which is the main source of energy for cells. Rich sources of carbohydrates are basmati rice, multi-grain crackers, and whole-grain wraps.

It is essential to develop healthy eating habits to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This would include the following-
* Enjoy your food and eat it slowly. This is good for digestion
* Drink 8-16 glasses of water everyday. Water transports the nutrients in the body and helps in flushing out the fat.
* Do not let junk food, like chips and colas, become part of your staple diet. It is unrealistic to completely keep away from them, so it is okay to have them occasionally.
* Vitamins and nutritional supplements should be a part of your diet. This way you can be sure that your body is getting everything that is needed.
* You should avoid fatty red meat, burgers, refined carbohydrates, high-fat dairy products, and high-fructose corn syrup.

Besides eating a healthy and balanced food, you should also make sure that you indulge in 30 minutes of aerobics everyday. This will help you maintain proper weight, is good for your heart, and will boost your immune system. Proper nutrition and exercise are the cornerstones of healthy living.
