Women and Diabetic Complications
For those who are strong women, you may want to think about the effects of diabetes and your ability to do normal things. You will find that there are over nine million women in America with the problem and some of them have no idea of having the disorder. You will also find that it adds up to be about 9% of all American women will have the disorder or develop the disorder.
Women who are of minorities are at the most risk. You will find that it is basically because of your bloodline evolving and there are more races that are living longer and longer. A lot of women do not develop the disorder until much later in their lives, but it is just as serious as being type 2 as it is to be a type 1 diabetic. There are also a lot of complications that are arising. You will find with the disorder women are at serious risk for these complications.
Women with the disorder are at serious risk for cardiovascular disease or complications with their heart. In fact, there are a lot of women who die from a heart attack because of their diabetes and those who do have a heart attack, are fifty percent more likely to die. That is something very scary to think about.
You are also at risk for DKA. DKA or diabetic ketoacidosis is where you go into a diabetic coma. This is because many people, especially woman do not focus on their treatments (because of various reasons) and they end up having a high blood glucose level in their blood, along with ketones. DKA is not from having high sugar, but it is the lack of insulin. Many people who are ejecting the insulin are not taking the proper precautions like simply keeping the insulin cold. Many people can die from DKA, however, it is something that is controlled and could be prevented.
Another risk that women are more likely to get is PVD, which is known as peripheral vascular disease. This is because the blood flow and oxygen are unable to get to the tissues of the feet or legs. Many people who suffer from PVD are eventually amputated.
There are many other risks like with pregnancy and the use of birth control. You will want to talk to your doctor about all the things that you maybe at risk for and then ask them if you are going to be able to get over the diabetes and you will also need to learn how to avoid such conditions so that you can live a healthy and full life.
